Thailand seeks higher
chicken exports to Europe
Thailand is continuing its e;orts
to win higher chicken import quotas
from the European Union in 2010, but
met opposition at a recent meeting
with EU representatives.
Europe prefers using most-favored
nation status to arrive at chicken
quotas, while Thailand, along with
Brazil, wants the quotas based on
each country’s export statistics. About
40% of Thailand’s chicken exports
currently go to Europe, according to
Thai newspaper The Nation.
The 2009, the EU processed
chicken quota for Thailand was
160,033 tonnes with a duty of 10.2%,
which Thailand was close to reaching
in the final weeks of the year.
Thai government o;cials expect
a new quota to be established by the
end of March.
Republic of Georgia egg
production up
The poultry industry in the former
Soviet republic of Georgia performed
well in the first nine months of 2009.
Egg production during the period
totaled 350 million, compared with
340 million in the same period in
2008. This increase in egg production
was achieved in spite of a decline in
the number of poultry to 8.86 million
on Oct. 1, 2009, compared with 8.98
million on the same date in 2008.
This suggests an increase in egg
productivity per hen.
In 2008, Georgia produced 441
million eggs, compared with 438
million in 2007.
Vietnam’s poultry
production up: Vietnam’s
poultry count spiked 12.83% to 280
million and poultry meat output
rose 12.16% to 502,000 tonnes
during the first nine months of 2009.
