International Poultry Council gains recognition of OIE
The International Poultry Council (IPC) has been recognised by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) as the official organisation representing the world’s poultry-meat producers. Under the memorandum, the
OIE will look to the IPC for input on global animal health issues.
In a ceremony during the OIE’s recent 76th General Session in Paris, IPC first vice president Tage Lysgaard of Denmark and OIE director general Bernard Vallat signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation that, in effect, recognises the IPC as a legitimate international organisation.
“The MOU means the IPC is obliged to keep the OIE informed on its activities,” Lysgaard said. “In turn, the IPC will be invited to participate in the OIE’s general meetings to give reports on what we’re doing.”
Participating in the signing ceremony at OIE headquarters in Paris are, left to right, IPC second vice chairman Christian Lohbauer of Brazil, Dr. Barry O’Neil, president of the OIE; Dr. Bernard Vallat, director general of the OIE; and IPC first vice president Tage Lysgaard of Denmark. Lohbauer represents ABEF, the Brazilian Poultry Producers Association, and Lysgaard represents AVEC, the European Union Poultry Association.
The IPC represents about 85% of the world’s poultry production, and nearly 96% of global trade in poultry meat.
Over 40 firms attend Cobb technical school
Over 40 companies from 19 countries attended the Cobb-Vantress annual world technical school at the global headquarters in Siloam Springs, Ark., US.
For two weeks, participants divided their time between the classroom and exercises designed to build on and implement improvements in production and processing management. The topics covered included breeder and broiler nutrition, health, environment, ventilation, processing and hatchery management.
“This is one of the most important events we host for our customers each year,” said Stan Reid, vice president of sales and marketing and world technical support. “The topics are important in helping our customers improve chicken management, but even greater value is gained through the relationships developed by customers from the various regions.”
