Disinfectant for fogging
The air in broiler houses always
contains a variety of micro-
organisms. Any concept that
can reduce the total numbers,
especially those known to be
pathogenic, must be beneficial
to the birds and workers.

In a recent study, two identical broiler houses were used to evaluate the effect of twice daily automatically fogging of one litre of a 1.200 solution of Evans Vanodine disinfectant, GPC8, from day 5 for 6 weeks in the test house.

Regular testing for glutaraldehyde after fogging showed air levels always below the Occupational Exposure Limit/WEL of 0.05ppm. On average, 30% fewer micro-organisms were recovered from the fogged house. The predominant bacteria were Staphylococcus xylosus. E. coli was detected in the control house but not in the test house. There were no deleterious effects on performance – in fact, the broilers in the test

house reached market weight 2 days before those in the control house. No adverse effects were reported on the behaviour or appearance of the birds.

Mycotoxin binder KetoSan powder is a mix of clinoptilolite, montmorillonite and yeast cell walls. It adsorbs mycotoxins in feed, including aflatoxins. The powder is mixed into the feed and then adsorbs mycotoxins during its passage through the digestive tract. As well as absorbing large quantities of liquid from the faeces, the product also absorbs ammonia and reduces smells, according to the company.
